10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Atlanta, GA - Mark your calendars for a ten year Olympic-sized celebration Saturday, July 15th at Centennial Olympic Park! The only official Centennial Olympic anniversary celebration to be held, this is an opportunity for the city of Atlanta to show its appreciation to all of the volunteers that made the Centennial Olympics a success. Volunteers, Olympic athletes and a number of musical guests will be in attendance to help celebrate the anniversary.

"I am proud to be a part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Centennial Olympic Games," says Billy Payne, former President and CEO of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, "This is the perfect occasion to share the Olympic legacy and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism experienced ten years ago."

The 1996 Olympics had a lasting impact on the city of Atlanta and confirmed the city’s status as an international destination. The 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Centennial Olympics is an opportunity to share the legacy with future generations, as well as to give thanks to those who volunteered during the Centennial Olympics. The volunteers that worked so hard will have the opportunity to come together ten years later and relive the emotion of the Centennial Olympic Games. Guaranteed to be a very moving event, the 10th Anniversary of the Centennial Olympics is one celebration you won’t want to miss.

"It is only natural that the commemoration celebration be held in Centennial Olympic Park," adds Mark Banta, General Manager of Centennial Olympic Park. "It was a central backbone to Olympic events and since its debut at the 1996 Games, the Park has quickly become a beloved Atlanta attraction."

In conjunction with the Celebration in the Park, the Atlanta History Center is launching their Centennial Olympic Games Museum earlier the same day. The festivities begin Saturday morning at 10:30am in the Atlanta History Center, with special guests from the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) joining Mayor Shirley Franklin for the official ribbon cutting.

A full schedule and list of entertainment and activities in the park will be announced shortly.
