Nationally known music acts to highlight free 12-week concert series at Centennial Park

Posted: May 2, 2001

ATLANTA - "On the Bricks," a free Friday concert series that will feature nationally known music acts begins May 25 and will continue through Aug. 17 (with no show on Friday, July 6 due to the Independence Day holiday).

Taking place on the great lawn of Centennial Olympic Park, On the Bricks "…will attract people downtown to enjoy what Centennial Olympic Park and surrounding businesses have to offer, (while they enjoy) some fantastic music, " said Marcie Allen, the Nashville, Tenn.-based promoter who is helping to launch the event.

Vertical Horizon (June 15), They Might Be Giants (June 29), Cowboy Mouth (July 13) and Sister Hazel (July 20) are just four of the national artists scheduled to appear during the 12-week run.

Allen said a complete lineup for the concert series will be released May 9, following the Music Midtown Festival.

On the Bricks was created to mirror the highly successful Dancin' In the District series in Nashville, which celebrates its 9th Anniversary this season.

A lasting legacy of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Centennial Olympic Park has become a performing-arts venue, community gathering-space and an anchor for downtown development. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority operates the 21-acre Park, as well as the Georgia Dome and Georgia World Congress Center. The three state-owned facilities are one of the largest combined sports, entertainment and convention center facilities in the world.
